The David and Joyce Weizenicker Fund for State Parks

David & Joyce Weizenicker

The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin seeks proposals for our 2024 grant cycle for the David & Joyce Weizenicker Fund for State Parks. This fund is a donor-advised endowment fund that provides 1:1 matching gifts to the Wisconsin State Park Friends Groups for the primary purpose of supporting projects that facilitate accessibility for senior citizens, especially trail development, maintenance and restoration, and the development and maintenance of rest stops, including benches, overlooks, and interpretive signage. Grants range from $500 to $5,000.

Here are some examples of past funded projects: Accessible Fire Circle (Friends of Governor Dodge State Park): Added an accessible fire circle at Governor Dodge State Park with surrounding hard surface circular patio to a scenic picnic area, connected to existing parking by a compacted limestone path. This offered a new accessible venue for Naturalist programs and increased recreation options for families and groups with members experiencing mobility challenges.
Nature Trail Accessibility (Bong Naturalist Association): Restored the entire .7-mile limestone trail for greater accessibility by senior-aged individuals as well as families/school groups.
Whispering Pines Park Rehabilitation Project (Friends of Hartman Creek State Park): Repaired existing and created new ADA-compliant walking trails; installed benches, an ADA picnic table, and interpretive signs.

The grant application is attached to this email (and can also be found on the webpage). Applications are due February 1st. Thanks for sharing with your networks, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
